Starting back in October 2010, Lynne and Alison began their journey into the retail market in small steps. Beginning with a market stall at Newark market, Wednesdays and Saturdays became the weekly spots to begin selling shabby chic gifts ranging from photo frames to wedding gifts and novelty items to glasswear. The girls became regular faces to the market every week, whereby they began to increase their stock and customer bases alike. Hoping to reach a further audience, Alison and Lynne started hosting giftware parties, taking their wide array of contemporary gifts into the home in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. As the popularity of the business grew, so did their ambitions, with the main dream to take all their beautiful gifts and house them in their very own shop.
Lynne and Alison opened LA Giftware in August 2012 at the side of Tentercroft Street carpark in Lincoln city centre. With a passion for the giftware market, the shop enabled them to showcase their wide array of gifts and stock they had built up including weddings, new baby and birthdays. However aware that no gift is better than the gift for yourself, LA Giftware also stocked a wide array of house items including plaques and decorative pieces to make a house a home. Spending time at trade shows and gift fairs, the ladies began to build a rapport with multiple companies, stocking their items in the shop through various times in the year.
Whilst the shop was a success, Alison and Lynne had dreams and ambitions to take the shop to the bustling high street of Lincoln city centre. In April 2015, LA Giftware shut its doors before rebranding and reopening as “That Little Gift Shop” at its new, bright and freshly decorated shop at 329 High Street. The increased space and size made room for more new and exciting stock from a wide array of suppliers including Disaster Designs, Gisela Graham, Shoeless Joe, East of India, Really Good and Nobile. The vision was to cater for a breadth of occasions in the small “rooms” created in the shop layout including bathroom ideas, household decorations, baby gifts, wedding ideas, ornamental ceramics, quirky humorous gifts and gifts for him/her.
As Christmas approached, the popularity of the shop grew as people recognised the new addition to the High Street. After a successful end to the year, it was onto the next mission, ensuring the delights “That Little Gift Shop” has to offer is spread further and wider. Alison and Lynne began their next adventure by taking “That Little Gift Shop” online and here is the result. Enjoy time browsing the new website, full of exciting stock items with more being added every day.
